We were planning coorg and wayanad trip in may end, couldn’t find more resort options in our budget (10-15K per night) other than Coorg Cliff Resort and Club Mahindra Resort (one in Madikeri & one in Virajpet – new and bigger one) in coorg, and we finalized coorg cliff resort in coorg. Our experience with club mahindra property – service and food isn’t good in past, so we decided not to go to any of their resort.
I was suggested Heritage Resort , Windflower resort, Kadikani River Resort also in coorg in similar budget but i didnt find it better than cliff.
If you have higher budget (>25-35K/night MAPAI plan),You can definitely book Evolve Back (previously orange county) resort or Taj resort, Madikeri. If your budget isn’t that high but little higher than 15K (15-25K MAPAI plan) You can checkout Coorg Wilderness Resort , Ayatana Resort, Amanvana Resort , Coorg.
In Wayanad, there are several good resorts and each resort has their own charm and speciality. So I was so much confused which resort to choose and which not, so i did much research in last 7 days and thought to share with everyone so it would be helpful to others who are travelling first time.
I have read several reviews, gone through resort website, youtube videos, various booking platform page and reviews including tripadvisor and gathered following information.
(I have not visited personally, just got info from websites, youtube videos and pictures and from telephonic talk with resort)
I thought to share it with everyone , so they may have more clarity and idea while booking for first time.
Wayanad (All resort in 10K-15K MAPAI/APAI package)
Pros
Location : Awesome , inside forest, natural water fall, bridge etc
Food : All meal inclusive package including high tea, as per info , veg food is also good and variety of options
Rooms : Jacuzzi inside the room, Spacious rooms (Those with <5 yr kids have only one option to choose in room – Vythiri Heaven, other category are also nice but not safe and not allowed with kids as per telephonic talk to resort direclty)
Cons
No kids specific activities / Activity area for them , mainly for <5 yr old kids
Can include more activities for kids and adults both like wild planet resort, devala (e.g. ATV RIDE, Boating, Kayaoking etc is missing here as no lake/river)
No AC (As per them, not required, but was worried in summer time in afternoon mainly it may not be plasent climate)
No TV , No Wifi, No mobile network inside room ( it is pro and con both depends on your need – For small kids we may require TV (with channel / smart tv with wifi) if irritated / crying in free time in afternoon/ night, no activity area for them so..
2. Aryal Resort
Pro
Beautiful view from room (lakeside romantic room)
Connecting bride as well (not like vythiri but seems good)
Boating/Kayoking
Awesome Swimmimg pool
Pottery – kids and adults both can do that
Tribal village visit – Unique experience
Cons
No waterfall / rainforest like vythiri
Food – limited menu for veg (however they told htey can make our choice veg food if told in advance) & taste also avg as per reviews
No high tea provided in all meal package
3. Great Trails by GRT Hotel, Wayanad
Pro
New property, Spacious rooms
All rooms with bathtub
Great Hospitality & service (even they made their chef to call me after my query of veg food, answered each and every query without any hesitation)
Food – They told they can make whtever choice of food we want if told in advance and variety of veg option and taste shd be good as well as all reviews for food were good. High tea also included with even breakfast + dinner plan.
Separate kids activity indoor area – <5 yr kids can also enjoy
Infinity Pool
All major sightseeing places nearby and can visit waterfall & lake/dam to overcome cons of resort not having any kind of waterfall/bride/river in surrounding like aryal and vythiri
Main reason i liked it due to food and hospitality & location accesible to other sightseeing and negative is outside resort ambience doesnt look as good as aryal and vythiri from available pics.
Cons
Location ambience isnt as good as vythiri & Aryal
(New property so couldnt find more reviews or pictures and no youtube video or virtual tour as well yet)
Pro
New property
All basic amenitis are there
Good spacious rooms (jacuzzi villa is also there)
Available at almost 50-70% price compared to above three)
Food reviews are good but i checked thei9r sample menu which was limited, not like 4-5 star veg buffet
Cons
No kids activity area
No waterfall / River – boating surrounding resort
Less variety in veg food – probably they may make more if we demand / ala carte basis
Other properties which are good and recommended by others but i havent gone in much details are – Chatau Woods (Chatau woods 50-60% rate compard to others but no much activity mainly nothing for kids and food reviews arent good for veg) , Vythiri Village Resort (Too many rooms so service issue may be there, many negative feedback on maintainance and service, else amenities wise it has everything & cheaper too, but again it is clubbed with club mahindra so we didnt do much research for that as well) , Mountain shadows resort, Windflower etc. You can check it out in details before finalizing booking.
Summary :
If you wanna stay in resort, u can book vythiri, if u like river and water – book aryal – if u wanna explore wayanad and all sightseeing and enjoy good food and service irrespective of external ambience – book great trails resort.
In nutshell, each resort has their own charm and decide whatever required as per personal plan and preference.
We were still confused so finally decided to visit wild planet resort, devala instead going to wayanad and Wild Planet Resort @ Devala has almost everything & good food as well.
